Pranburi was a pretty unknown spot for kiters not too long ago but that has changed now. This year saw a lot more people going down there for kite surfing although Pak Nam Pran beach (or "Packers" if you want to call it like the local kiters do) has kept its original charme. The beach is still wide and long and the "kiters per square meter of beach relationship" is still extremely low, perfect for kiting. Nothing to compare with Hua Hin where, for my taste at least, it is just too crowded.

To get around you can (should) rent a motorbike which sets you back 200 Baht per day. If you feel like more action at night you can quite easily go to Hua Hin which is just a 20 minutes drive away from Pak Nam Pran beach in Pranburi.

If you are thinking about learning to kite then the best place to start is a 3-day beginners course that goes for very reasonable 11,000 Baht. This gets you 3 long days with a professional instructor that will tell you all the ins and outs of kite surfing. On the third day, most people already start practicing water starting with a board.

Starting on March 20. 2010 for four consecutive Saturdays, Manop Meejamrat of Patravadi Theatre, will re-stage Eclipse, which I picked as one of the 10 best productions of the last decade.

"Eclipse"premiered in 2004, was re-staged last year at Bangkok Bananas and is back in March and April. A The Nation weblog has called it one of the best productions of the decade.

"The production underscores one of the unique virtues of the Patravadi Theatre – its interdisciplinary training.

At the outset, "Eclipse" seems to be all about drums, and certainly much of the world has been keen to hear Asian drums in recent years. But, while powerful drumbeats are the primary sound of "Eclipse", the musicians also act and dance while the actors and dancers take over the drumming.
The show is built around a simple, traditional story about rural people beating drums to scare off Rahu, the God of Darkness who has eaten the Sun.

"Eclipse" is onstage at the Vic Hua Hin every Saturday at 7.30pm starting this weekend and continuing until May 1. Tickets are Bt600 to Bt1,000 (50 per cent off for students) at www.TotalReservation.com.

There will be 4 sound-stages located around Pattaya. The International Music Stage will be located at the Bali Hai Port at the south-end of Pattaya Beach, the Indie and Thai Pop Stage will be located on Pattaya Beach Road in front of Soi 4 and the Variety and Reggae Stages will be located in front of Central Festival Pattaya Beach in front of Soi 9 and in front of the Central Pattaya Intersection on Pattaya Beach.

The Pattaya Music Festival will feature local musicians as well as International artists from various countries including Korea, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Australia, Laos and Taiwan.

On Friday, the stage at Bali Hai will be devoted to Pop music while music lovers will be thrilled by Rock groups at the stage in Central Pattaya. The third stage at Pattaya Soi 4 will feature easy listening music.

The next day will see Pop and Rock groups performing at the Bali Hai stage, Hip-Hop at central Pattaya, and Jazz at Soi 4. The schedule on the last day include shows by Rock groups at Bali Hai, Country Western music at central Pattaya, and Pop Rock at Soi 4.

For all clubbers it might be interesting to know that there is also a special Trance & House zone at the beach opposite Soi 12. No entrance fee and the trance/house party runs until 2AM.
