Spanish on 4: Authentic Tapas food on Silom
Spanish on 4 is a Tapas Cafe right on Silom Soi 4, across from the "Tapas" night club which most Bangkokians are familiar with. It is funny to note that during the construction phase, the place was still labeled "Tapas Cafe" but I can imagine that the owner of the Tapas night club was not too happy about that naming scheme and that it would have confused a lot of people... so the (from my perspective) a bit awkward "Spanish on 4" looks like a compromise to me. Nevertheless, Spanish on 4 is great. And I didn't expect anything different because it has the same owners than "Tapas Cafe" on Sukhumvit Soi 11 which is already in existence a couple years and has gained many followers for its authentic Tapas cuisine. I don't know of any other place that offers "real" Spanish Tapas food. The concept seems to work as the place was full when I arrived the last time. Spanish on 4 is located where Speed club was before. You won't recognize it anymore though as everything inside is completely renovated. The interior design is excellent. The orange colors and artwork at the walls, plus the music played (YES, no K-Pop here!) give it a real Spanish ambiance. The menu is separated in meat, vegetarian, and seafood dishes and there is a separate desserts menu. Prices per dish range from about 90 to 150 Baht. Very acceptable I thought for what you get. There is just a few dishes that are more expensive such as Octopus for example. It is essential that you order a jug of the delicious Sangria. If that is to sweet for you, you can choose from a decent wine collection. Spanish on 4, just like Tapas cafe on Sukh Soi 11 also have a good selection of cocktails and long drinks on offer so its also a place you can go just for a drink. A dish to recommend is the Avocado Tartare with Tuna. It was listed among the specials so it is probably not part of the normal menu.
