RSS Guide

RSS is another word for "Really Simple Syndication" and that is what sums it up pretty good: It is a quick and easy way to collect and use "syndicated content". This could be news headlines, announcements, updates or any other newsworthy article. With using RSS you can stay updated on all Bangkokrecorder News, Magazine Articles, Locations additions and more even when you don't have the time to go to our site at the moment. By the way: The icon you see below is the official RSS icon. You might have noticed it before when using the Firefox browser.

1. Download a RSS News Aggregator

The easiest way to read RSS news is to use a socalled "Newsreader" or "Aggregator". These will catch the RSS information that you want and present it to you in an easy to read way. There are several excellent free choices available and we collected the best Newsreaders for you below:

Newsgator:
This Newsreader is free, has a very clean interface and runs directly in your browser. That means you don't even have to download any software and that Newsgator works on Windows as well as Apple Mac and Linux. Just go to the website, sign up for a free account and start receiving the most current Bangkokrecorder updates.

Bloglines:
Another very nice News Aggregator, Bloglines is also free and even provides you with an integrated blog and other nice features. Again, as it runs in your browser, you can run bloglines on any OS and without installing any software.

Blogexpress:
An easy to understand software which is free and runs on Windows only. This is a software you have to download to your desktop.

2. Enter RSS Feeds

In order to subscribe to the Bangkokrecorder Feed you have to do the following:

  1. Go back to the Bangkokrecorder RSS page
  2. Click on the button that belongs to your Newsreader that you are using. For example: If you signed up for an account at Newsgator, then you just have to click on the + Newsgator button.
  3. You are done! After clicking the button, you will be automatically taken to the newsgator website and the Bangkokrecorder RSS feed will be added to your Feeds list.
  4. Now you will be able to see the Bangkokrecorder Feed on the lefthand side of your newsgator account. Click it to view all the latest news.
For bloglines or other services the procedure is the same. Just look for the button for your service, click it, and our RSS feed will be directly added to your account. If you are using a reader that we don't show an "Add button" for, or anything doesn't work using one of the buttons, then just paste and copy the URL of the RSS feed to your reader. It's not quite as convenient but you ave to do this only one time. It takes just a minute!

Some technical RSS information

RSS is a new format that is based on the XML standard which was invented to share textual information using the Web. RSS feeds can be viewed as pure text but actually it has been mainly created for an exchange between two PCs.

Besides RSS there is also another standard called Atom. A popular service using atom feeds is for example Google’s Blogger. Atom is more powerful but RSS is more compatible and as of today is the de facto standard.
