The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration opened over 6,000 polling stations for the capital's voters to cast their ballots today to elect a Bangkok Metropolitan Council and 36 district council members.
Running in the race are candidates from the caretaking Thai Rak Thai party as well as the Democrats, Chat Thai and independents.
More than 150 candidates are vying for 57 seats in the city council, while 655 hopefuls are aiming for 255 positions in the district councils.
Meanwhile, a Ramkhamhaeng University survey has revealed that the majority of Bangkok citizens, some 63% of respondents, feel the most pressing issue is eradicating mosquitoes. Other points of concern include garbage collection and pollution.
Voting stations were open from 8am to 3pm for 4.2 million voters in 50 of 57 districts.
