Thailand may soon see the legalization of gambling after interior minister Chalerm Yubamrung gave his full backing to the legalization of casinos.

Chalerm said: “The move will not go against the sufficiency philosophy economy if Thais understand how it works. Malaysia, for example, is already doing it even though the majority of the population is religious… Those who oppose of the plan will need to be enlightened on how it works… The idea needs to be put before a national referendum.”

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej told viewers of his weekly programme on Channel 11 that he approved of legalizing casinos.
