Thailand's national parks may close

Monday, 15 October 2007
Thailand will consider permanently closing its national parks for the safety of tourists during the rainy season.

Chalermsak Wanichsombat, director-general of the national park, wildlife and plant conservation department said that for the safety of tourists, park authorities are authorised to immediately close any national park considered unsafe.

Meanwhile, a rescue team leader confirmed a death toll of six foreign tourists, including three children, and two local Thai guides after there were swept away by a flash flood during a cave tour in Surat Thani.
