It was just a question of time and now it has been confirmed that starting from the 17th of February, smoking will be banned from all nightclubs, pubs and some public places such as the Chatuchuk Weekend Market. Restaurant owners who have an open air area also have to install non-smoking areas outside.
Dr Hatai Chitanond of the ministry's Health Promotion Institute was quoted saying: "We believe there will be some resistance from operators of nightclubs and pubs because they may fear the ban will reduce their customers," he said. "I'm willing to talk to them more about the ban if they rally."
People braking the restriction face a fine of 2000 Baht (if that is all you gotta pay, then I think the incentive to really not allow people smooking will be very low for many nightclubs).
