Quake proofing Thailand

New buildings will be built with innovative systems to prevent tremors from damaging their structure, after the Cabinet approved a proposal by the Public Works and Town and Country Planning Department.

Soft soil areas affected from remote quakes, include Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon.

11 provinces lying on a fault include which are Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Kanchanaburi, Lampang, Lamphun, Tak, Nan, Phrae, Phayao, and Kanchanaburi.

And, in the south, seven provinces at risk include Krabi, Chumphon, Phuket, Surat Thani, Phang Nga, Ranong and Songkhla.
