Major oil companies have agreed to lower fuel prices by 40 satang a litre, effective from 05:00 today.

The move comes after refined oil prices in Singapore dropped, said Manoon Siriwan, Senior Executive Vice President of Bangchak Petroleum.
 

First dead in fresh bird flu outbreak

Thailand's first bird flu fatality this year was confirmed in Petchabun province, said Public Heath Minister Pinij Jarusombat.

An offical statement said 16-year old Yongyuth Daengmeesri was hospitalized on the weekend and died on Monday after he helped his family bury dead chickens without wearing gloves a week before becoming sick on July 15.
 

Bird's eye flu

Thailand's Publuc Health Ministry has finally admitted to a bird flu outbreak in the northern province of Pichit province.

The suspicious deaths of 31 fighting cocks and free-range chickens were reported two weeks ago, however, the Caretaker Agricultural and Cooperatives Minister Sudarat Gayurapan downplayed fears of an outbreak.
 

Bangkokers choose Democrats

After Sunday's Bangkok council and district elections voted the Democrats into 35 out of 57 city council seats and 176 of 255 district posts, the winning party is hoping for a similar result in the nationwide elections on October 15.
 

Four red zones declared for dengue fever

With the monsoon season well and truly settled in Thailand's northern provinces, the Public Health Ministry yesterday have announced four provinces as "red zones" for dengue fever.
