Thailand's first internationally exhibiting pachyderm is displaying his artwork at the Dundas Gallery in Edinburgh, and fetching a mammoth price for them as well.

Former logging elephant Paya is gaining international recognition for his artistic abilities with his convincing self-portraits. He was scouted by 26-year-old art graduate Victoria Khunapramot when she went to an pachyderm painting class in Maesa village in the north of Thailand.

Some doubt an elephant's ability to paint, saying their strokes are steered by human hand. However, Ms Khunapramot maintains they only need assistance in placing the paint brush in the trunk.

Paya's works are being sold to art enthusiasts in Scotland for 18,000 THB a piece.
