Happy Songkran!
Wednesday, 12 April 2006
The BangkokRecorders would like to wish you all a very slippery Songkran.

For those new to town here are some places to check out:

Sanam Luang is where most of the traditional ceremonies take place. Religious processions and the "Water Park," a light an sound show on the history of Songkran and on the King, rill run all week.

Khao San. Most Bangkokers will head to Khao San this week for some wet and wild action. Expect insane crowds and not a dry head in sight. This may be the only time quick-dry polyester has ever come in handy.

Silom. As the evening sets in, many will head from Khao San to Silom, mainly around Silom 4. More watery high jinks ensue, this time with armed ladyboy fatales.

RCA. Since its coolness factor has been raised considerably since last year, RCA could be a good choice for further night-time antics. Clubs and bars along this strip are throwing a number of parties. Check our dates section for more info.

Temples. For those more spiritually-minded, a prize is being offered for devotee who manages to worhsip at all nine temples on the Tour Lah Maha Songkran 2006. Shuttle buses operate from 08:00 to 16:45 between Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaeo (Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram), Wat Suthat Thepphawararam, Wat Chana Songkhram, Wat Bowon Niwet, Wat Benchamabophit, Wat Rakhang Khositaram, Wat Arun and Wat Kanlaya.
Tickets are 100 baht for adults and 50 baht for children, available at parking points around Wat Pra Kaeo.

Beauty pageants. Check out the belles vying for Miss Songkran Visutkasat-Banglamphu at Santichaiprakarn Park on Phra Arthit Road. Farang beauty contests will also be held on Khao San Road.

Now that you've got the lowdown on where to go, be sure to waterproof EVERYTHING. You will be constantly drenched so avoid airconditioning after the sun goes down. And remember ladies: no spaghetti straps!
fellas: no groping!
