The date for the general elections has been approved in a Royal Decree for October 15, said Cabinet Secretary-General Rongphon Jareonphan on Friday.
The decree is effective from August 24 with the election to be held 60 days later, according to the constitution.
The April 2 elections were nullified by the Supreme Court after the His Majesty the King deemed it undemocratic and unconstitutional.
Thailand has been in a political stalemate since parliament dissolved in February. Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his party Thai Rak Thai have been acting as caretakers of the country.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission is being sued for lack of transparency and fairness in carrying out the polls. Accusations also point to electoral bias by several EC members.
Lawsuits have also been filed against political parties for breaching election laws.
The courts vow to speed the cases up through the legal system, though critics doubt whether any of the issues can be resolved.
