Japan has given a popular cartoon robot cat named an unusual government post to promote animation. Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura appointed Doraemon an "anime ambassador," handing an official certificate to an unidentified person inside a costume at an inauguration ceremony. Komura said: "Doraemon, I hope you will travel around the world as an anime ambassador to deepen people's understanding of Japan so they will become friends with Japan."
