Couple charged with Film Fest bribery

Sunday, 20 January 2008
A couple who organised the Bangkok International Film Festival have been indicted on charges of paying $900,000 in bribes to a senior Thai tourism official.

U.S. film exec Gerald Green, 75, and his wife Patricia, 52, were charged with making a series of illegal payments over five years to the then governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Juthamas Siriwan, in order to secure the lucrative contracts.

The Greens are charged with paying $900,000 to Siriwan to win contracts worth more than $7 million for running the annual film festival from 2002-2007.

Facing seven charges, they could face a maximum of five years in a U.S. prison on each charge if convicted.
