Bollywood actor, Salman Khan, has been convicted to five years in prison on hunting charges.
On Septempber 28, 1998 the Indian mega-star allegedly poached a chinkara, a protected species of gazelle. The high-profile celebrity looked shaken when he was escorted out of court to spend the night in Jodhpur Central jail. Khan must also pay a 25,000-rupee fine under the Wildlife Protection Act.
Khan's sentence is one of the harshest to be passed for killing an endangered animal under Indian environmental laws.
The 40-year-old actor was found guilty of poaching two black bucks earlier this year, though the sentence was suspended for a month.
Prison authorities in Jodhpur insist Salman Khan will be kept in an ordinary cell like other inmates and would not be given any special treatment.
