Most of Bangkok's child beggars have been trafficked in from Cambodia and are used to generate money for their handlers, claims the Mirror Art Foundation. These children are commonly found begging around Pratunam, Hua Lampoang, the Mall Ngam-wongwan Department Store, Rangsit, BTS On-nuj and Nana stations, it said. Child beggars can be as young as four months old and usually earn 300 baht a day, said the Foundation. However, those who are disabled can make around 1,000 baht daily. The Foundation called for authorities to tighten checks at the border to prevent traffickers bringing in children from neigbouring countries.
