Bangkok families less happy

Wednesday, 10 October 2007
The family life of most Bangkok residents has become less happy over the past year, with happiness scores falling from 7.99 points out of a possible 10 in September last year to just 5.63 this month, according to a survey.

The Assumption University survey found that more than a third of respondents - 37.2 per cent - said the government had made hardly any progress in promoting, protecting and developing the family institution.

Meanwhile, 71.5 per cent of the people polled said the overall state of the family institution was as bad or even worse than before, with problems like child prostitution, street children, divorce, separation, child-labour abuses, domestic violence and the abandonment of children, elderly and people with disabilities remained as prevalent or are even more widespread than before.
