Bangkok cops say Hello Kitty

Monday, 06 August 2007
Thai police investigators who refuse to play by the rules are being forced to wear pink "Hello Kitty" armbands as a punishment.

''The same old warnings no longer work for some officers,'' CSD acting chief Pongpat Chayaphan said.

''This new approach is intended to engender a feeling of guilt and discourage them from repeating the offence.''

In the case of a second offence, a panel comprising 18 warrant officers will decide on an appropriate punishment, which could be standing guard, or detention.

so the wrist band is to identify the ones you can bribe the easiest, to make life easier? Why not do it like elsewhere - you dont go by the rules, you are fired!

This is one of the most hilarious stories to come out in my 13 years in Bangkok. I just wish this treatment would be extended to all officers, not just CSD ones -- including those serving in posts requiring them not to be hidden in a building, but out in plain view of one and all! ESPECIALLY traffic police at intersections with computer-controlled lights who disable the computer then leave the lights unchanged for lengthy periods for reasons known only to themselves, reasons that defy logical analysis.
