Sin City is a sinfully delicious film manifestation of Frank Miller’s comic series: Sin City, That Yellow Bastard, and The Big Fat Kill. The two directors - Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado) and Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2) alone can give you a rough idea about what to expect from this film. It may be a comic book adaption but it is definitely not for kids. Violence rules Sin City is an imaginary place where violence rules. The film revolves around three main characters, Hartigan (Willis), Marv (Rourke) and Dwight (Owen) and their stories, which somehow intertwined each other. Resembling other Tarantino movies, the storyline goes back and forth in time. In keeping with the comic book genre, the narration throughout the movie follows the character‘s thoughts. From a production standpoint, Sin City is visually striking. It was shot entirely on blue screen and in black-and-white with the odd colour thrown in, much like Warren Beatty’s 1990 classic Dick Tracy. The violent and disturbing (not to mention funny) Sin City will be remembered for its unique style and daring creativity. Warning: this film is not for the faint-hearted!
