“Rocket Cab”

I applied low-polygon modeling and texturing techniques used in 3-D game development for my work, which uses the technique of conventional paper model toys. Both representative forms have many common implications; hobbies, games, simulation, simulacrum, idealogy, reproduction, cloning, originality, unfolding, simultaneous perception, tangibility, etc. I also added the use of hypertext to this paper-toy platform by printing fragmented text and phrases directly on the paper model’s tabs. The text and phrases on the tabs act as guidelines in the construction of the paper model.

Rocket Cab

I chose the subject of taxi cabs because I really liked the multi-colored element of the vehicles, which makes the cityscape of Bangkok unique. Roads full of brightly colored taxi cabs depict a candy-coated city to some, but others also see it as a kind of visual pollution. The idea of integrating the elements of taxi cabs with rockets came from my immediate reaction to the exhibition space itself. I felt it looked like a secret rocket launch pad. It would be nice if it really had a rocket inside of it, even if the rocket is made out of paper. The issues in this work concern my own thoughts and interests towards current affairs in Thailand – mainly the 'direction' that our society is headed. Apart from information received from daily media, I also added information gathered from attending "Thai Social Forum", a seminar that ran during October 21-23, 2006.

“Neons From Art Spaces”

My installation is composed of neon lights I’ve collected from art spaces in Paris (Palais de tokyu, Contemporary Art Center Bregtiny, Mc/Val Contemporary Art Museum, Center George Pompidou, etc.) These lights were in use in their original spaces. The lights I've collected will be presented as an installation from the ceiling and turned on simultaneously.

Lights

Each light will bear the name of the place it belongs to and a program will be provided showing information and images about where the lights came from and their removal from the original space. These neon lights represent two ways of thinking; one idea is to represent my travels from one art space to the other art space as inner mind traveling and the other idea is to represent the art spaces the lights came from.

“Together Alone”

My piece will be set up like a private or personal space (such as a bedroom), which people are welcome to use or relax in and watch a number of movies that were part of a selection in a film guide called "151 Cinema." I found it interesting that the book critiques mostly art and rare films, some of which are really hard to find in Thailand. These movie critiques are like propaganda in the way it pulls interest from people to these films. It also results in a gap between the information and ideas that you are exposed to and the reality of what those films are really like. I want to lessen this gap by creating a stage of possibilities. I have been finding as many of the films featured in the book as I can and have made them available to the audience. The layer of ideas surrounding the piece involve issues about copyrighting, human rights, individualizing and publicizing processes, private and public areas, external and internal borders, limitations on capitalism and so on.

“Orbited Objects”

Scientists chase after the uncertainty of nature and endlessly create definitions in order to understand the world. It seems the more they try to extract the truth of things that exist at a certain period of time in order to come up with a standard definition, the more it causes people to neglect and refuse to acknowledge the other aspect of truth that is constantly changing. When Pluto was disregarded as a planet in our solar system due to its lack of gravitational pull and orbit, it became clear that definitions are just products of scientists' imagination in order to understand their surroundings. Everything in the world is in constant motion and change, as is the case with human imagination. Perhaps star charts as we know them should be torn apart and we should appreciate and take notice of nature for ourselves. This replicated universe invites you to move and allow these tiny, stars (illuminated by the light of your flashlight) to orbit according to your imagination around the cosmic tent. Or travel through countless light years with a short walk to the other artists' galaxies.

Perfect CrownAngkrit Ajchariyasophon
"The Perfect English Gentleman"

Thailand has never been colonized by any countries. However, it seems that our neighboring countries in South East Asia have become more independent than Thailand. For example, Malaysia has survived economic crisis because of its financial policy, which does not rely on outside factors. Singapore is well adjusted to capitalism and has colonized other countries by means of financial advantage. Now, let's look closely at Thailand's vision for development - from now on Thailand will focus on the development of tourism, food industry, spa services and the fashion industry in order to create a Thai national identity. As an individual cultural/art practitioner, I must adjust myself in order to stay connected with global trends. I'd like to be a Thai person with western thinking. I want to learn western culture, language, manners/courtesy, etc. I want to be possessed totally. I aim to go West. Please congratulate me, Mr. Angkrit, who will become perfectly Mr. Angkrit/Angloman.
