Just when you thought you’ve had enough of film festivals, Bangkok will host yet another new event this month, called Fresh. Fresh, an event devoted to international video art and short films, won’t simply rehash art house movies featured on the festival circuit. Instead, video art pieces and non-narrative short films will be showcased at Bangkok CODE, an extension school of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, located on Sathorn road. Organized by the Communication Design Program of the School of Architecture and Design at KMUTT, Fresh invites notable curator and video artist Hanspeter Ammann from Switzerland to show various forms of experimental media from around the globe. The program is divided into four categories: “Being,” “Reasons,” “Seeing” and “Choosing.” The four categories consist of 27 pieces of video art from Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Guest curator Ammann will introduce each segment and hold a question-and-answer session after the viewings. The opening day will feature screenings from the first two parts of the festival. Then, stick around for the after party featuring an audio/visual show by the collaborating artists, as well as a French DJ and veejays from Japan, Korea, Singapore and Thailand. The event runs from July 23 to 26 at Bangkok CODE (Surasak BTS station).
