You can study all kinds of interesting things in Thailand: Thai-cooking, Thai-massage, monkhood, yoga, meditation, Thai language, Thai-boxing.
The most useful, of course, would be to go to a university for either a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree. There are plenty of universities in Bangkok and their quality in teaching and tuition fees vary greatly.
Some of the prominent universities include Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, ABAC and Mahidol. There are plenty more and just about all of them have international programs for international and Thai students. Studying in Thailand can be quite an interesting experience. Firstly, the study culture is very different. Comformity is widespread, but improving all the time. School uniforms are slowly being set aside. Plus, education itself is also getting closer to international standards, especially in the aforementioned universities and increasingly others as well. Bangkok University’s International College is very popular among foreign students and offers an interesting study atmosphere in a highly social environment. Some foreign students have opted to stay behind to lecture as well. Don’t think studying is easy in Thailand. If you go to a good school and want to get good grades for a brighter future, you will have to work for your grades. But the perks of Thailand quickly pay back handsomely for your troubles.
Cheating is still common. Don’t be very surprised if your neighbour is checking out your paper throughout the whole test. It’s pretty much a rule in many classes. Nowadays though, it seems school officials are putting more attention on preventing cheating and foreign professors are known to be especially strict.
In general, you will most likely enjoy the years studying in Bangkok. It can suck you in, but you will have more free time than back home, so it is definitely worth at least a BBA. Especially for Master degrees, Bangkok has some very interesting deals to offer. There are 3 schools that offer Master degrees that can compete with the best schools around the world. These include Sasin, the Thammasat MIM program and the Asian Institute of Technology. They are good but don't come cheap either. Sasin has 2 of the most prestigious partner schools in the world which are Wharton and Kellogg. These two business schools from the USA are frequently ranked among the top 10 business schools worldwide and numerous instructors are also teaching in Bangkok at Sasin. The Sasin MBA will cost you about 24,000 USD. Thammasat seems to be doing especially well when it comes to international business school competitions. They have won the Moot competition before which means they have beaten schools like Harvard or Kellogg. Thamasat attracts the best entrepreneurial students and the program will set you back about 9000 USD. The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is specialized on technology and has a very interesting Dual degree program on offer where you can study 50% in Europe and 50% in Bangkok to combine the best of two worlds. One more option that comes to mind is the very good Mahodol College of Managment which offers different Master degrees. Decide for yourself. The cost of study varies a great deal. Some universities are very cheap to study in, but keep in mind that cost is a measure of quality as well, at least to a certain point. The aforementioned universities are among the most expensive in Thailand, but they also offer quality education and a foothold into Thai society as well. So party less and pay for your tuition on time. Massage, Thai-boxing, language and other courses can be found via weekly magazines. The courses don’t cost too much and can be a very nice way to spend a vacation. Learning culture while you work is always a good idea. It will help you integrate into the society much more easily. Sometimes, it’s best not to try and understand Thai mentality, but if you do try, then be serious about it. Thai society will also be more accepting if you prove your interest instead of just going crazy in bars. by Loyal Dog
