Isan beer angers
Tuesday, 29 January 2008
Plans for a “Isan” brand of beer from the makers of Singha have angered Buddhist activists and anti-alcohol groups.

Protesters gathered on Tuesday morning at Boon Rawd Brewery Co., Ltd. to demand that the name Isan, which refers to Thais who hail from the northeastern region, not be connected with beer.

The Chairman of an anti-alcohol group said: “We would be happy if they chose another name that was not directly connected with the Isan people’s way of living and their culture.”
