Playground Festival 2008 Indonesia
Tuesday, 05 February 2008
Air AsiaAsia has been booming as a as a location for large scale music festivals. We recently have been to Zoukout in Singapore, Recharge Revelation Global Gathering in Malaysia and we have seen the very first of its kind in Bangkok, the Culture ONE festival.

On the 23rd of February, Indonesia will be host to one of the largest open-air festivals with a world class lineup of artists from all kinds of areas. Playground festival 2008 follows the first Playground held in 2006 where already 6000 clubbers partied in Jakarta’s Taman Ria Senayan Complex and made it one of the best parties of the year. This time, the location is changed to Carnaval Beach, Ancol Bay City which has more space as even more people are expected this year. Besides, what could be better than a party at the beach you ask?

Maybe this here:

Paul van DykThe organizers of Playground Festival 2008 in collaboration with Air Asia have been very generous and provided 2 packages to the Bangkokrecorder readers that we will give away to you! Each package includes plane tickets for 2 persons, one day accommodation in Jakarta and tickets to the Fesitval. So this can't get any better. You get a free weekend in Jakarta's bustling capital with its scenic beaches and can dance the night away at one of Asia's biggest music festivals. All you have to do is send an Email to rec (at) bangkokrecorder.com with your name, age and mobile phone number. You have to be at least 18 years old to participate. Winners will depart from bangkok on the 22nd of February (20:15) and return on the 24th (16:30). Deadline is the 9th of February. We will notify winners the day after. Good luck!

Looking at the lineup, Playground Festival 2008 looks to offer a very varied music choice that includes local and International acts, DJ's and bands, rock and dance music but also bungee jumping, bars, massage places and even the sneaker addicts from the Netherlands. The main act will undeniably be Paul van Dyk who has played around Asia before with huge success. But there is much more to see. The whole festival is separated into 5 different areas which include the Embassy Stage (Main), Balcony Stage (House/Electro/Rock), Wonderbar Stage (Urban Eclectic), Sunset Stage and The Silent Disco.

 Silent Disco

If you wonder what the "Silent Disco is": It is probably the most fun/original concept we have heard of in a long time. The idea is simple. In the Silent Disco area which has a capacity for about 1000 people, there are sets of wireless headphones given to people: 50% hear one track and 50% hear another track. Now imagine half of the party goers dancing to a rock song and the other half listening to a techno DJ. Then imagine how it looks like watching these people dancing to the music that only they can hear: This is the Silent Disco which was created in the Netherlands and has proven to be immensely popular and entertaining at festivals around the world.

The International Lineup includes Paul van Dyk, Belle and Sebastian, The Silent Disco, Jose Padilla, VHS or Beta, Grant Nelson and Vika Kova. The "home-grown" lineup includes Agrikulture, Rock N' Roll Mafia and Agoose. Finally, the resident lineup has Remy Irwan, Miko, 1Man, Raymond, Aldrin, Flip and Winly.

Until the 13th of February, the tickets to the event cost IDR 200,000 (about 700 Baht) but can only be bought in Indonesia. After that date the regular ticket price is IDR 250,000 whereas VIP tickets for IDR 400,000 (1320 Baht). The latter 2 are available to buy in Thailand.

Considering the low rates of Air Asia, there is really no excuse to not go. Be honest: That 1 or 2 whiskey bottles you empty on a weekend in Bangkok could also bring you to the beach at Jakarta for Playground 2008. So what's it gonna be?
