the dutch social system has changed a lot in the last years and he's financially way better off begging for money on the streets of Bangkok then he would be at home in Holland. Not to speak of the climate and living conditions over there.
That doesn't mean I approve of what he does... I think he's a low life.

The thing is, if he is really not able to contribute to society and needs to live off other peoples money, then he should go home where he can rely on the support of the dutch social system. The (Thai) people who give him money, dont have this kind of security to fall back on. thats the reason why its wrong (IMHO).

I guess you've already been given a verbal beat down for that comment, so I will point out something else. Lets not forget that most of the beggers at Siam Square area are imported from Cambodia, and orgaized into begging gangs with their own version of Pimps. A Pimp runs a crew of beggers and provides protection and lookout, but takes a big share of the $$. I've personaly seen the lookout guys, alerting beggers who look like they can't even walk - to get up and run away. I've also seen a Thai/Camboidan begger pull in at least 200 baht/hr. Not a bad little business.

I don't understand why people complain. Is it that he is foriegn begor or is it that you don't want begor in bangok. If it is the first, then why is it ok for thai people to be begor or not another foriegner? IS it racist beleif of yours? OR you don't want to see any begor where us rich people can go shopping? For me, I don't like to see begor too. But there are many poor people and most of begors everyday uI see are foriegners from Burma, Cambodia, Lao. Modernday we have many european people in Bangkok so why everyone surprised about European begor also?

@ average joe. totally agreed. 30k for sitting all day all week all month in the heat in front of MBK and then all that shames that comes with it... no way! I therefore dont understand all you guys getting agressive here. you must have really horrible jobs bothering so much about that poor fellow. to me the only question is wheter he got a valid work permit. not that i bother, but the local guys sitting opposit might get him on that one.

..since my last post got censored :) this one will probably too. While I laugh about that dutch. You should still try understand how many economic refugees from Thailand we have in Europe!!! And also how much they are protected through European social systems that do not exist in Thailand. And those social systems are financed by Europeans through their taxes, probably also through that dutch beggars, Father, Mother or other relatives. That alone, besides his personal freedom gives him the right to do as he wishes as long as he is not a criminal. Your racist remarks also leave out of question how many Thais make money as beggars on the street AND why are most beggars located around Sukhumvit area, since there are so many farangs who actually give a little more than 1 baht or 2 to get some merrit.

So please first look in your own garden before you decide to gossip about others.

Anyway, the lenient culture you are talking about, allows minor to sleep and beg in the street, or young mothers with 4 children to sleep in the dirt while they buy their Aston Martins at Siam PAragon!

Please think a little before you write! Giving 10 baht may give you some spiritual merit, but otherwise doing nothing else for these people except publishing a story about that one guy who makes so much money!! Why dont you go out and publish stories about the Thai social system, social security and such? Too scared?

It's really rather scandalous, however the authorities over in Thailand are the ones who should take action, There are loads of cases of people living on the street that genuinely have no other option but to beg, missing limbs, terrible diseases etc, that man is a parasitic disease taking away what the real unfortunate people should be getting, don't pitty a man who claims he's lost his money and needs to get out of the country quick, the authorities will kick him out eventually if he cant get any more money from..well...you...the unsuspecting tourist with too much money to spend, seemingly...

Honestly I could care less. You definatly couldnt pay me 30 thousand baht a month do sit around all day and beg. Not only would this be completely boring, you would feel really bad about yourself.

The only question is, how much do the Thai beggers make? I know probably most of their money goes to the mafia but I guess sooner or later, so will his.

Loads of people come to Holland to beg / trick people out of their money. I wish beggars in Holland would just sit down with a sign, instead a lot of them bother people and even get angry if you (nicely) tell them to f**k off.

This is clearly a case for the Thai authorities and since they don't do anything about the guy it's their 'fault' and not the guy who's begging...

Well first of all i want to make clear this guy really is a parasite, and it sadens me he is a Dutch guy.

But we must be fair here, how many people from 3rd world country's you see here in Europe Begging for money ???
Alot i can tell you, sure most off them really cant do any thing else but still its the same in the entire world.

Only problem is, this guy can go back home to Holland and still live a good life......

All i can sayis the guy is a complete loser. As foreigners we are here to set the example for the locals who are still recognized on the global business platform as a third world nation. Coming from Europe he should have at least a better education than most Thai people and of course has the ability to speak several languages. English Ducth possibly German. So the fact he cant make a life out of teaching English and has to stupe to beg puts him on the bottom of the barrell in my opinion. Its no wonder that allot of Thais have poor impresions of farangs - foreigners in general. Man I always seen this guy, and always ask him what his deal with scamming. What makes it worst is that there is always another begger right down the way from him with missing limbs or 4 babies covered in dirt.

I seen a couple other cats like this too. There is the guy that is always saying he needs a 100 baht cause he lost his wallet or whatever. He looks like he needs the cash to score another hit, but he doesn't even have the mental capacity to remember he asked me just last week and I was the guy who was chewing him out. Another guy who tires to sell so old ass postcards.

I think this post should be forwarded to the mafia and let them know these are the faces cutting in to their business. Great Post!!
